The Gishes found themselves competing against a bevy of other young actresses, all rather interchangeable. One of the company’s other ingénues, Miriam Cooper, remembered that “[Griffith] liked his young ladies to be thin, ethereal types. I don’t think there was a big bosom in the bunch.
