Lily Tomlin, partner ponder marriage after 42 years

Actress and comedian Lily Tomlin and partner Jane Wagner are thinking about tying the knot, Tomlin told an E! Online reporter Monday night. “Jane and I have been together for 42 years,” she said. “We’re thinking maybe we’ll get married.”

Tomlin, 73, and Wagner, 78, didn’t think same-sex marriage would be legal in their lifetime. The “9 to 5” star said that if and when the big day comes, she and Wagner won’t wear wedding gowns. “No rings, no bridal dresses,” she said. “Maybe we’ll be dressed like chickens.”‘

Tomlin originated Edith Ann, a child, and Ernestine, a telephone operator, on Rowan and Martin's Laugh In on NBC in the 1970s. Tomlin, winner of the Mark Twain Prize for humor, and Wagner collaborated on the highly successful one woman showThe Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe. Lillian Gish attended the premier of "9 to 5" at invitation of Tomlin and Wagner.
