Aging in Film: Make Way for Tomorrow 1937

One of Lillian's issue was elder dignity in acting. Her last film, "The Whales of August," is about elder dignity, strength, and growth. "Make Way for Tomorrow" is a stark 1937 production directed by Leo McCarey about the elderly and an important contribution to cinema and elder dignity.

Of "Make Way for Tomorrow" Leonard Maltin said, "Sensitive film of elderly couple in financial difficulty, shunted aside by their children, unwanted and unloved; shatteringly true, beautifully done."

The film starred Victor Moore, Beulah Bondi, Fay Bainter, Thomas Mitchell, Porter Hall, Barbara Read and Louise Beavers.
